Manual Or Pneumatic Lathe 5C Collet Closer Or A Tru Set 5C Collet Chuck? · Jan 2, 11:20
We haven’t installed a 5C chuck in the lathe yet, but since there doesn’t appear to be high availabilty of 4”-6” 6-jaw chucks, we’re beginning to think that a 5C collet chuck system is the way to go.
Then, with 5C we can either install a 5c chuck which eats up a few more inches on the X-axis, or go with a 5c collet closer system which may take up less room.
Lathemaster and other importers of Chinese tooling sell similar models with a “tru-set” or “true-setting” arrangement to achieve really small TIR of approx. 0.0002” or 0.0004” (pretty good!) for anywhere between $150 to $300. Of course, they all have their methods of mounting whether threaded adapters, plain-back direct mount.
Stay tuned for more as we investigate the options..
