There’s a slit on the outboard end of the depth-stop rod so as to allow finite adjustments. We used a 1/2” 12L14 steel rod (what was in stock) and threaded it to 7/16“x20TPI (again, what was on-hand in terms of a reduced-shank tap and a matching die). Since we didn’t have a 7/16“x20TPI nut handy, we just chucked a 3/8” nut, drilled and tapped it out to fit. This locks the depth-stop rod in place.

What would be a useful addition to this is a collar that supports the rod on the far end (close to the chuck) so that it doesn’t wobble around as much during high speeds. This hasn’t been a major problem yet. This tool has made flipping over parts for finish facing operations easy!

Pretty simple. This is useful for parts that can’t fit in a 5C collet and where repeatable depths are needed for those repetitive stress injury-inducing operations. :)
